Do you remember your grandparents ? paternal or maternal... Grandparents. I remember my father's mother. She died of cancer. She lived in a house, alone . I always felt sorry for her. None of her four sons ? who directed the sanatorium in Brixen ? had time for their mother. At the end she was embittered. She was originally from Bohemia, where my grandfather had worked as doctor in a spa. She moved away from there and basically was always homesick. I don't remember my maternal grandmother. But they told me I was with her as a baby. She lived in Brixen near the local government building. I never met either of my grandfathers. My paternal grandfather was a in politics. In those days politicians were not paid. He did it besides working as a doctor. He built a lot of things, military barracks and a hospital in Brixen. He had many things built. He was very socially minded. I was told later that he often went to Rome on pilgrimage. That was arduous at the time. It took a long time to get to Rome. That's all I know. My grandfather lived in a fortress, in a palace: Castle Adegenhaus in Brixen. It is a home for handicapped children now. My siblings were born there. I was born in a villa which they bought later, in Brixen.
